Geneva Ave, Dorchester, by Diogo Brandao

Geneva Ave, Dorchester

Boston is a city with a surprising history, its biggest neighborhood
in Dorchester, where I live is in Geneva Ave.

From where I live, you can take the purple line as you can see in
the picture, there's also two schools called, UP Academy Holland,
and Dorchester head start ,and you could walk to multiple markets
and school. I'm not saying it's a fun place to hangout and it's that bad
either but it has good transportation to other good places.

Enslaved African American Pioneer finally free

First Person Of Color Freed In  Massachusettes

Elizabeth Freeman aka "Mumbet" the very first enslaved African American woman who fought for her freedom using the law as a card to pull on the government to get her freedom. Which favored in Elizabeth due to the inconsistency in the 1970 Massachusettes state constitution.  (Brom and Bett v. Ashley (1781), was cited in the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court appellate review of Quock Walker's freedom suit. When the court upheld Walker's freedom under the state's constitution, the ruling was considered to have implicitly ended slavery in Massachusetts." She did not only set as a role model to the other enslaved slaves during that time to get the motivation started to get other slaves free using a technique to sue against the government using their own law against them.

People know that King Philip's war is the most bloodiest war by per capita but did you know that Boston ban native american for 300 years? In the beginning of King Philip war after the Wampanoag tribe raid in Swansee, Massachusetts and it spread across Massachusetts. Legislation came at the height of King Philip's war and decided that Indians are banned in Boston and wasn't repealed until 2005 by former Mayor Menino. When the constitution was created in 1787, no one had stepped up to repeal this act till 1996 after working with the city to protect the Indians burial ground in Boston Harbor island.

King Philips War - Jazmarie, David, Ahnest.

In 1675-78 there was a war between the Native American's vs the English settlers. There was two names of the war one called the King Philips War , the other name called "Great Narragansett War". This war was one of the dangerous conflict in Boston's history. King Philips war was also known as a civil war because , it was a fight between members of the same society. This war was caused because King Philip had became in power due to the death of his brother Alexander , but the bigger picture was the English were trying to expand on to the Native American's property, and the Wampanoag didn't like the fact that they're trying to take over.

What happened after King Philip's war?

By: Kenny Tran
What happened after the war was that some of King Philip's supporters escaped to Canada and some of them surrendered and were shipped off as slaves to the west indies. ¨This war was extremely costly to the colonists of southern New England and which ended the Native American dominance in the region.¨ (from History- King Philip´s War ends) After the war some of the native Americans were sent to Deer Island as slaves and had to deal with the freezing cold and many of the native Americans died due to becoming sick.

Barbaric Acts Of 1678, by Bre and Kim

          ~Indigenous InhabitantsWar~

                                            (A.K.A. "King Phillip's War, 1675-1678)

To start with...who was "King Phillip"/Metacomet? Metacomet was a guy who was called "King Phillip" by the English colonists, and helped lead the different tribes of the Wamponong nation. Specifically, he led some allies of the Wamponoag tribe to safety during the King Phillp's War. That war, which took place between 1675-1678, involved the Colonist  and the Natives. This led to a long history of the Colonists degrading the natives for years!  Years of torment & being forced off land. But yet, the natives didn't surrender under pressure.  The colonists' demands and constant  insatiable greed for power is what caused the war.  There was a history of the Colonists taking over running the Indian/natives out of their land, in and around Boston. Making it seem like the colonist was in control the whole time the natives stayed silent . When really it wasn't that way at all... the Wampanoags and other tribes tried to make peace with the colonists until they were pushed too far.

Metacomet by Michael Wuschke

Metacomet, also known as King Philip, was the chief of the Wampanoag tribe who helped lead his tribe and their allies in the fight against the Colonists in a war known as King Philip's War. He was the son of Massassoit, who was the Wampanoag chief that helped the Pilgrims during their first year in Massachusetts in 1621, and the younger brother of Wamsutta, also known as, Alexander, who became the Wampanoag chief in 1660.

Metacomet signing a treaty
After the death of his brother in 1662, Metacomet became the new chief of the Wampanoag tribe. During his reign, Metacomet began to sell off most of his tribe's land, presumably following the orders of the Colonists. When it was revealed that Metacomet and his tribe were planning a war against the Colonists, he was forced to sign a peace treaty demanding that he surrendered his weapons to the Colonists, but he refused. When the news spread around the Colonies that an Indian Colonist was murdered, many Colonists believed that Metacomet ordered the death of the Indian Colonist because he was supplying them with information about the Native Americans and their activities, though he denied these accusations.
The death of Metacomet

Nevetheless, these events would later spark a bloody and violent conflict between the Indians and the Colonists that would last for two years and would not see a definitive end until the death of Metacomet when he was murdered by Indian soldiers loyal to the Colonists a year later in 1676.

David's Mattapan

By David M.
Mattapan is one of the most beautiful places in Boston. It's an interesting neighborhood and a very diverse neighborhood. Mattapan was originally part of Dorchester until the 1800s when it became its own neighborhood. The Neponset tribe who originally settled Mattapan were a tribe of the Massachusetts Native Americans. Mattapan has a trolley that goes through the cemetary which I ride on every day to go to school. I used to be scared at first but I got used to it. It really is a beautiful sight to see, especially on a sunny day.

A Brief Dorchester History

By Kiondre C.Image result for Baker chocolate factory pictures

Dorchester was originally one of the biggest towns in the Massachusetts
bay colony established in 1630. Along with that Dorchester was also the home
to numerous types of an industry some of which is the first for the country.
For instance, Dorchester was one of the first places in the country to have a
chocolate manufacturer. This factory was known as “Bakers Chocolate Factory” this
Chocolate Factory was the first of its kind established in 1765 it is now the oldest
chocolate factory in the United States with it now being owned by Mondelez International.
Finally, with that out of the way, Dorchester is also known for its cultural diversity with
there being all kinds of different races like Hispanic, Black, American Indian, Asian, etc
and with these different races come to a neatly wrapped bundle of Cultural Traditions.

Boston has some interesting and historical towns I will be talking about Mattapan.
Mattapan is named after a Native American tribe and its defined as a” good place to be”
or a “good place to sit”. Mattapan is a safe place to explore in the daytime but at night time is not safe to explore, but Mattapan has a few good people. Mattapan has a big Carribean population, and is one of the best places to eat Jamaican, Haitian and Dominican food in the city!

A couple of facts about my neighborhood
-Mayor Thomas Menino used to live in Hyde Park
-It has nice structures like the Vertullo building, which is the oldest and surviving wooden building
-Doesn’t have a lot of fine dining but it’s filled with fast food and even international food
-It used to be home to the 54th Regiment(The first African-American Army who
fought in the civil war)

Hello my fellow readers, my name is Karla,
and I will be introducing you to my neighborhood.
Hyde Park aka “Small town in a City” is an urban city
with suburban characteristics to it.
It’s filled with different nationalities, food,
even has great history to bring it all together.
Hyde Park used to be the home for the 54th Regiment,
who were the first African Americans to fight in the Civil War
for the blacks in slavery. They had traveled to Boston to be free,
to then volunteer to be in a Civil War to fight for other slaves still in captivity.
